Where our information comes from
Every measurement, field mark and statement about what an insect damages or whether it stings comes from a university extension service, a state or federal agency, or a natural history museum, and each guide lists the pages it relies on. Sizes are given in inches and millimeters only where a source gives them. Pest-control company pages are never used as sources. The review ledger lives in the repository as BUGS-REVIEW.md.
How we use AI
AI powers the identification in the app and may help draft the guides. On this site, every claim is checked against its source before a page becomes indexable.
What an identification is
A well-informed first answer from one photo. Many insects can only be separated under magnification, so some results are at the family or genus level. The app does not identify bites or stings, it is not a pest inspection, and this site gives no pesticide advice. For treatment, a local extension service or licensed professional is the right source; for a reaction to a sting, a doctor.
Corrections
We want to get this right. If you spot an error, tell us and we'll review it against the sources and update the guide.
